Gut-brain axis disruption. The gut and brain communicate constantly through the vagus nerve, a direct line between your digestive tract and your brainstem. When intestinal permeability (commonly called "leaky gut") is present, lipopolysaccharides (LPS), toxic fragments from gut bacteria, can cross the blood-brain barrier.
